If you like having smoother skin and fewer breakouts then you really need to see this new beauty tool for the face developed by two Irish nurses.

Already well-established and very popular at their Renew Clinic, nurses Sinead Gallagher and Jeanette Dunne have developed a new at-home device for better skin.

The pair have clinics in Dublin, Naas and Drogheda, and they are popular for lots of face and body treatments for men and women, plus they work with some really professional brands like Obaji, SkinCeuticals, Skingredients, Image and more. They say that since the pandemic, feedback from a focus group found that most were looking for more at-home devices and so they developed the beauty tool.

They say 'Several participants mentioned that seeing their skin up close on Zoom has made them more skin conscious. And at-home tools are things they’d like to fit into their routine.' Now, in a move that brings the effects of professional treatment into people's homes, they have developed a DIY microdermabrasion device called Skin Krush that not only gives great results but will save you a fortune at the same time.

Microdermabrasion is a wonderful skin treatment that lifts away dead skin cells in a gentle fashion. It revives dull and dry skin, and for oilier skin, it keeps the pores clear of the oil and debris that can cause a breakout.

In a treatment, microdermabrasion uses fine crystals and a vacuum simultaneously to 'buff' away dead skin cells, excess oils and imperfections to hygienically make the skin smoother, and more radiant and to reduce the risk of breakouts.

How it keeps spots at bay is simple - it removes excess oil and dead skin debris so there are fewer bacteria and grime that can clog the pores, and so you have fewer breakouts. But, it also helps with ageing signs in the most minimally invasive fashion.

Because microdermabrasion works on the surface of the skin it can tackle fine lines and dark spots, so it will fit nicely with your anti-ageing regime if you are already on the retinol or glycolic train. The new beauty tool could be a once-a-week or fortnightly treatment as a boost for everything else you are doing.

Clinic courses of microdermabrasion can run into the €100s, so Sinead and Jeanette have developed Skin Krush, which costs just €129. It is a handheld tool that uses suction and an exfoliating crystal tip to buff, clear and remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. Easy to use (see the website for a how-to video), the device comes with three tip sizes - one fine to begin with, the other medium to increase the intensity, and a precision tip for around the nose.

The pack includes two of each tip, plus 10 filters to collect dead skin cells, and the unit is charged with a USB cable (included). To treat the skin effectively, use once a week in your skincare regime for smoother, clearer and very radiant skin. It is great to see Irish innovation and design in the market with a beauty tool like this, more so when it is affordable for the average skincare fan.
